Noise Barriers

Noise barriers may be entered in Novapoint Noise. We enter a centre line for the barrier. From this we may get a terrain profile along the barrier and enter heights. The heights may be specified as relative to the ground level or as absolute heights (altitudes).

For the noise barriers to be taken into account, they have to be included in the terrain profiles used by the Novapoint Noise calculations. Generation of terrain profiles is done as follows: First terrain profiles are collected from the terrain model, then these are supplemented with corresponding profiles of buildings and barriers defined in Novapoint Noise. This means that all active noise barriers registered in Novapoint Noise, are included in the terrain profiles.

Each terrain profile is interpreted and the noise barrier that most likely gives the largest abatement is selected as noise barrier for the relevant profile. This may be an registered barrier, a terrain barrier or a building.

If Novapoint Noise calculations are to be run with varying barriers, it is recommended to select Reuse of profiles in the dialog box Calculation of alternative. Thus we achieve that terrain profiles are collected from the terrain model only the first time we run the calculation. These terrain profiles are being saved. The terrain profiles are being supplemented with different noise barrier profiles according to which noise barriers are set to active. When the terrain profiles from the terrain model are saved, the following calculations will take as little as 10 % of the calculation time. With that it will be reasonable to perform a thorough analysis of noise barrier measures in an area. This selection is not possible when calculating with reflections.
