Updates i Novapoint Base

Version 18.20 64 bit
  • Corrections in Setting out - from drawing: The function now remember changes in position of the symbols and point numbers and when a new symbol is chosen, both symbol and number are drawn. Mid points of polylines are not anymore included in the point list.

Updates in Novapoint Landscape

Elevation Tools

The new function “Create point elevations from blocks“ will generate intelligent point elevations from AutoCAD blocks as well as from texts and mtexts. The function will search for figures and translate those inte z-values. Point elevations will be inserted in the insertion points of selected blocks and textobjects.

Dynamic link to an alignment and between road models
A dynamic alignment based on the end of a surface or the end surfaces for a whole road can now be created and stored to the DTM. If the road model is changed the alignment is automatically updated. The function is accessed through the Cross-section viewer and by right clicking on a surface.

Using this function road models can now be dynamically linked.

Multiple road model interface - External road models
External road models can now be edited and calculated via the Cross-section Viewer in your main project. Surface description on an external model can be edited by right clicking on the road surface. Road Pavement and Advanced Pavement for the external model can also be edited by clicking on a road pavement for the external model.

It is now possible to freely define the various road bed layers in the same way as the road bed. The function is accessed through the Data – Advanced Road Pavement… or by right clicking on a road pavement layer.


DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE NEW FUNCTIONS
Dynamic link between two road models You can now automatically create an alignment on the edge of a road surface or for all the end surfaces on the right/left side of a road. These alignments are automatically updated if you change and rebuild the road model.
Right click on a surface in the Cross-section Viewer:

Four new choices:
Save/update end of surface as alignment – creates an alignment along this surface edge for the whole project. The alignment is stored to the DTM to Group 99991 and the alignment is named after the Road model and surface name P-2.1_100 – Surface edge 2.1 and project 100

Erase alignment created from end surface – deletes the alignment from the DTM.

Save road edges as alignment – creates an alignment based on the end surface on the right and left side of the road model.

The alignment is stored to the DTM to Group 99991 and the alignment is named after the Road model and surface name P_-9.9_100 – End Surface edge left side and project 100 and P_9.9_100 – End Surface edge right side and road model 100. This surface can vary depending on whether the road is on cut or fill.

Erase Road edge alignment – deletes the alignment from the DTM.

These alignments can be for example linked to an external road model:

If the active road model is now adjusted the dynamic link is automatically updated.

Note: As these alignments are dynamically linked to the road model they cannot be used in the same road model.

The dynamic link can be turned off/on in Model – Settings - Elements Tab by selecting/deselecting the Update connection alignments.

Multiple road model interface - External models
External models can now be edited and calculated via the Cross-section Viewer in your active road model. Surface description on an external model can be edited by right clicking on the road surface. Road Pavement and Advanced Pavement for the external model can also be edited by clicking on a road pavement for the external model.
External models must be added/removed by selecting File - Properties and the External models tab:

When selected they will be shown in the Cross-section Viewer and can be edited in the same way as the active model. Right click on a road surface in an external model:

Select the surface for the external road model (in white) and the Road Surface description for the external road model opens. This can now be edited. The same applies to the road pavement for the external road model.

When the Calculate external models is activated in the Model – Settings and Elements tab:

All models will be calculated starting with the active model and then the first external model in the list and ending with the active road model again. After the first model is calculated select Close and the next model will build. Continue until all road models have built. The automatic calculation of the external models can be turned off by deselecting the Calculate external models.

Advanced pavement description
The new dialog can be accessed from the road model menu, Data – Advanced Road Pavement…

or by clicking on a road pavement layer in the Cross section viewer and selecting Advanced pavement

When selected from the Cross section viewer the dialog will open at the pavement layer selected:

It is now possible to define a pavement layer in the same way as the Road bed. The number of surfaces available has been increased to 15 (16 for the Road bed).

Note: there is no End Surface for the other pavement layers. All pavement layers with the exception of the Road bed should end against the Inner slope/ditch or cut/fill line or sent up to the layer over. A pavement layer will always stop at the layer over and then follow that layer. Pavement layers cannot be defined outside the body of the road.

Note: A road pavement layer should not be sent through a lower layer.

Right click on either the Left or Right side of a pavement layer and the following choices are available:

The choices are self-explanatory.
Right click on a Surface and the same choices are available:


Note: As for the Advanced Road Bed description a user defined pavement layer must have a complete definition for both sides or the result may not be correct.

Build of Road and Rail models


The build of a road or rail model can be started from the model menu under Model – Build, from the Cross-section viewer or by selecting Apply in a number of dialogues. Under is a description of what each build does.

Model – Build from the model menu.

The Build dialogue is opened and Wire frame and Quantity calculation can also be calculated. When external models are attached and the setting Calculate external models is selected (Model – Settings – Element) the active model is built first then each of the external models in the same order as they have been attached and then the active model once more. The build dialogue is opend for each model and any calculation errors can be controlled.


When only the Update connection alignments is selected the active model is calculated twice, once to update any connected alignments and once more to update the viewer.

When the30 button is selected the whole project is calculated and he result build dialogue for the active model is opened.

When external models are attached and the Calculate external models setting is selected the active model is calculated and the result dialogue is shown, when this is closed the external models are calculated followed by the active model once more in silent modus, no result dialogue is shown.
Note: Connection alignments for external models will not be updated.

When only the Update connection alignments is selected the active model is calculated and the result dialogue is shown, when this is closed the active model is calculated once more in silent modus, no result dialogue is shown.


When the30 button is selected only the selected cross section in the viewer is calculated and the result from earlier calculation including the quantities and wire frame are deleted.

External models are not calculated.

Connection alignments will not be updated.

When50 is selected the whole project is calculated in silent modus. No error messages are shown and connection alignments in external models are not updated.

Note: If you are working with connection alignments it is strongly recommended that the Model - Build method is use.

New in Railway 18.20

Railway shares many updates with Road, so please also read the http://wikinova.info/doku.php/en:np:road:release_notes:np1820 release notes there for details of important new functionality.

New Railway model

18.20 introduces major changes to how the railway model is defined. Whereas in previous versions the VIPS-model modelled only from the formation level and down, the VIPS-model now models the complete model from ballast and down. This is done by using 1 and 2 surfaces for the ballast, single or double track, and surfaces 3 and onwards for formation level and other features. What this means for the engineer is that the ballast is now included in quantity calculations and survey data. The ballast can also be in 2 layers, to better reflect common working practices.

Combined with the advanced pavement design (se release notes for road for full information), we are confident that this substantially enhances our railway model.

As before, the initial model is created through the use of the Track Data and Standard Cross Section Wizard dialogues.

Track Data

The Track Data dialogue has seen minor changes in this release. Cant override has been removed, pending a revised solution in NP 19.

Standard Cross Section Wizard

The Standard Cross Section Wizard has seen a few changes.

3D Train

There are additional options for the generation of the 3D Train profile. It now includes a parameter for quality, which gives an allowance for deviation from theoretical positioning horizontally and vertically.

Rail, ballast and sleepers

Rail now has user defined width, in addition to height.

Sleepers also have user defined width now.

Ballast is defined through height, shoulder width and slope.

Calculation options

Several options have been removed from the calculation options, due to differences in how the old and new railway models work. Only the options to calculate ballast and redefine substructure surfaces are now available. This allows the user to recalculate the entire model, a partial model, or just change settings for various features.

Switch Design

Switch design has new options when inserting switches to main reference alignment.

In addition to the switch geometry, starting from version 18.20 it is possible to insert also a switch symbol (dwg block). Switch symbol is set in the switch settings file. Switch library is user defined and can also be referred to other location than the installation directory, e.g. a network drive. This means that user/organization can define and maintain their own symbol library. There can be separate left/right-handed switches defined.

Switch geometry - rail joint, theoretical intersection and back edge - can be added to the main reference alignment if requested. It needs to be noted that this function will modify the reference alignment accordingly.

Kilometer stationing

Version 18.20 introduces a new function for handling the kilometer stationing. Kilometer stationing describes the location of the rail track as a reference to the existing (old) kilometers instead of continuous stationing. User can create the kilometer stationing the kilometer chainage calculator by pointing the kilometer pole locations on dwg. Alternatively a kilometer stationing definition file can be used directly.

Railway model can be created and edited based on the kilometer stationing. Also the drawing production and reports - horizontal alignment, cross/long sections, volumes - can be produced with the kilometer stations.

Kilometric stationing is now available for all configurations.

User interface

The user interface for the Railway model has been changed to include more railway terms. This includes the menus, dialogues, cross section viewer, surface descritions and reports.

  • A new function for making 3D cross-section for lofting is now included.
