Alignment Design

Use this module for designing the highway alignments. It is activated from the following places:

MOUS_ICO Toolbar: Road: Alignment Design... Alignment Design
MOUS_ICO Menu: Road > Alignment Design…
Note:

The function 'Object Menu (NCO)' can also be used to start this module. Activate the function 'Object Menu (NCO)' and select either an existing alignment, or a line or polyline from the plan drawing. From the pop up menu select 'Alignment Design'.

Alignment Design Menu

Buttons

Pick Object <

Use the button 'Pick Object <' to initiate elements for alignment from the current drawing.

Recalculate All

Calculates the geometry and the longitudinal terrain profile of the alignment. The whole alignment will be recalculated.

OK - Draw

The alignment is drawn in the current drawing with the active 'Draw Single Alignment (Setup)', and the Alignment Design function gets closed.

  • Draw the alignment to the current drawing using the option 'OK - Draw' of the user-interface 'Alignment Design'. Save the drawing file. To retrieve/initiate the alignment run the function 'From Drawing'.
    • The alignment in the drawing will contain extended data regarding and is recommended as a source of information.
    • Automatically, the alignment in the terrain model will be updated with the button 'OK - Draw' (if the alignment is already saved to the terrain model using the function 'Name' or the alignment is already available in the terrain model (imported using the functions of terrain model).

The pull down menu has additional option such as 'Draw as 3D Polylines' and 'Draw with Parallel Lines'.

OK - Draw as 3D polyline

The alignment is drawn in the current drawing as a 3D polyline, and the Alignment Design function gets closed.

Set an appropriate arc deviation value, e.g. 0.05m.

OK - Draw with parallel lines

The alignment is drawn in the current drawing with the active alignment setup, and the Alignment Design function gets closed.

In addition, the specified Parallel line width set in Tools - Parallel Line Width will be drawn as 2D polylines in the current drawing.

Note: The parallel lines will not be updated. They should therefore be erased manually if the horizontal alignment changes.

There is clear separation between the function for constructing an alignment and the function, which redraws the alignment into the drawing.

Note: For presenting the vertical geometry in the current drawing, the function 'Draw Vertical Alignment from Terrain Model' is to be used.

Cancel

To exit the function without saving. All changes made will be lost and the alignment in the database is set back to the earlier version.
