Novapoint Online Documentation

Technical documentation

Novapoint Survey is an extension that runs on top of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Map, AutoCAD Civil 3D or as standalone application inside Windows. It translates field observations (angles and distances) or coordinates to drawings, or some other graphical format from where it can be used further during design. Some common export formats are DXF, LandXML and KOF. Common import formats are text, Leica, Trimble, Topcon. It supports stringing (connecting points with common feature codes to lines) and constructions such as offsets, extensions etc, to assist the surveyor in the field. Novapoint Survey has also an API available, which makes it possible for third parties or customers to write their own custom reader or writer formats.

Installation guidelines

Novapoint Survey exists in different flavours:

  • As as standalone application
  • Integrated within AutoCAD environment.

In both cases, the calculation is performed in the standalone application, which is as such always available. If there is an AutoCAD on the computer, the additional AutoCAD plugin part provides some extra functionality with regard to features, to create/modify and interrogate them. The calculation, adjustment and creating of surveyed features can be performed completely without AutoCAD.

Each user can have his own settings. (Adhering to Windows standards), this means that on first user run, the software will copy some files from installation [folder\userdatacache] to the user specific folders

Novapoint Survey is part of a larger framework: VNS Spatial Data Center. All this functionality is included in a single setup. During setup, the user can deselect the items that are not required. Some tools are only of interest to a specific user group, for example based on their region. As such it doesn't make sense to include schema definitions that are not used in a specific region…

Available extensions in the Spatial Data Center setup:

  • Survey Extension
  • Cyclorama Extension
  • OnSite Extension
  • TopoPlanner Extension
  • Exif Extension.

Each extension has it's own list of schema definitions. For Survey one needs:

  • GRB if measurement needs to be executed regarding GRB regulations
  • PICC if one needs to work in Wallonia
  • Aquafin for Aquafin related work
