Channel Geometry
Channel geometry tools can be divided to three main groups:
- Minimum radius
- Widening and turn type
- Draw edge lines to AutoCAD
Menu: Waterway Channel Geometry
Toolbar: Waterway Channel Geometry
The dialog box “Channel geometry” will pop up:
Minimum radius
Minimum radius values are used when drawing channel edge lines to AutoCAD. Radius is analyzed based on the curve turn angle (deflection angle), factor specified by user and design ship length by formula Rmin = Factor x Design Ship Length.
Default values are inserted automatically. If desired change values manually.
Widening and turn type
Value for channel widening in a turn depends on the deflection angle. Novapoint Waterway divides curves in two types:
- R < 10 x L, default value for widening is 0.10 x B
- R > 10 x L, default value for widening is 0.05 x B
Specify manually desired values.
Widening may be placed on the outside curve, inside curve or both sides. If both sides is used application divides calculated widening evenly inside and outside curve.
Turn types are available in 4 predefined configurations:
- Polygon
- Trapezoid
- Apex 2 point
- Apex 4 point
Select desired turn type configuration from the list.
Refer 'Calculation Methods' for details on different configurations calculation principles.
Draw edge lines to AutoCAD
The settings for edge lines Layer, Colour and Linetype can be specified. Settings will be used at “Draw Channel” -function.
