Channel Design using Road Design
Channel Design uses Road Design functions that are specially adapted to channel design. In a way channel design is a kind of profile of the Road design.
Surfaces
Road model requires the cross-section surfaces for fill and ditch be defined in the model. Channel cross-section -function inserts dummy values for Ditch and Fill surfaces automatically. User need not have to concern about the values. Following values are inserted to model and if desired may be manually changed: Surface number Width Slope 4.1 0.001 0.000 -4.1 0.001 0.000 7.1 “To Terrain” -100 -7.1 “To Terrain” -100 All superstructure layers used at Road design are set to 0.0 in Channel model.
Waterway Surfaces
In Channel (Road) Model > Model > Road Surfaces… dialog there is a “Waterway surfaces” filter that displays only surfaces meaningful to channel design. However, should user wish to have full control of surfaces this may be done selecting for e.g., “All used surface” in “Show” drop-down list.
Cross-section Viewer
Because fill (embankment) is not normally used in underwater construction the Cross-section Viewer in Road model do not display fill surfaces as default. ;E.g. it is possible to see channel minimum depth level hovering above seabed. This is useful visualizing possible bank and bottom effects. See example picture below.
In cross-section drawing production there is possibility to create drawings with or without fill surface. Cross-sections with fill surfaces are marked as (Road).
Waterway quantity report
There is a Waterway quantity report F3 “Waterway Quantities” available at Road model quantity templates for channel design.
